Priscilla S. Daniels is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Community Engagement Unit at the University of the Western Cape since 2010. Her key responsibilities are facilitating and coordinating community engagement activities at UWC that enhances and promotes the scholarship of engagement through equitable partnership and citizenry to promote sustainable communities. Prior to this she was manager of the Community Higher Education Services Partnership at UWC and Chairperson of the Department of Human Ecology and Dietetics. She also serves as an Executive Board member of the South African Higher Education Community Engagement Forum.
The key responsibilities of her unit is to facilitate the development of sustainable partnerships within the university as well as with broader society. The Community Engagement Unit (CEU) facilitates community engagement opportunities within the following niche areas namely; substance abuse training interventions for communities at risk; reading programmes to develop literacy at schools, empowering women in communities through story-telling and facilitating opportunities for publication of these stories, community leadership programmes (partnership with Missouri University Extension), developing foetal alcohol syndrome training programmes for communities. The aim of these niche areas is so that these university partnership models facilitates transformational learning and contributes to community development through social justice and civic responsibility.
