Nyemara Novatus is a Counselling Psychologist and a Lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST). He has hands-on experience in teaching, executing trainings in psychosocial support, psychological therapies, and counselling practice. His research interests are in adolescents’ mental health and family systems. He participated in a team that worn a micro fund sponsored by Dalhousie, Canada and Child Health Uganda. This study is being done. He has also participated rigorously in developing curriculum at various levels at MUST and outside of MUST. Novatus is a fellow under Mbarara University Research Training Initiative (MURTI) cohort 3, under a capacity development grant funded by NIH targeting junior faculty. His research study under MURTI fellowship is focusing on “Alcohol Use Disorders among Adolescents and Family Functioning in Greater Mbarara District, South western Uganda”. Findings have been shared in both National and International conferences. He has extended this study in his PhD project to evaluate Functional Family therapy as an intervention to improve family functioning and reduce alcohol use disorders among adolescents. He is also addressing the issue of reproductive health choices and decisions among older adolescents.
