Marta Aymerich holds a PhD in Medicine and Surgery (2002; MD degree in 1993) from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), and a Master in Public Health (MPH) from the Harvard University (1999). She is currently the Vice President for Strategic Planning and Research at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC).
Previously she has been the Head of Health Research and Innovation at the Ministry of Health of the Government of Catalonia (2011-2013) and earlier the Director of the Catalan Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Research (2006-2008), where she developed her professional career as a researcher since 1995. From 2004 to 2006 she was appointed Director of the Interministerial Council for Research and Technological Innovation by the Government of Catalonia.
She founded the research group Translational Medicine and Decision Science Lab (TransLab) of the University of Girona, where she was professor at the School of Medicine from 2009 to 2014. Currently she is member of the eHealth Lab research group as well as the President of the eHealth Center at the UOC. She has published multiple papers on scientific journals on the areas of health services research, evidence based medicine and research assessment. She is reviewer for scientific journals, as well as evaluator for several scientific organizations, the Spanish Health Research Funds and the European Framework Program of R&D.
